What Scripture Says When You're Afraid

Written by the Scripture Nook team · January 29, 2026

"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Isaiah 41:10

Some of the most repeated words in the Bible are 'do not be afraid.' Theologians count them somewhere between 70 and 365 times, once for every day, depending on how you read it. The repetition is the point. God knew we would need to hear it again and again.

Isaiah 41:10 does not say fear is wrong. It says you are not facing it alone. The fear is real; the company is realer. Notice the verbs: I am with you. I will strengthen. I will help. I will uphold. Four promises in one sentence, none of them depending on you being brave first.

If fear is loud today, try writing the verse out by hand. Slow it down. Let the promises land one at a time. Brave does not mean unafraid. Brave means afraid and still moving, with His right hand under yours.

A Prayer

God, I am afraid and I am tired of pretending I am not. Be the strength I do not have today. Walk with me through what scares me, and remind me that Your presence is louder than my fear. Amen.
