When You're Struggling to Forgive
Written by the Scripture Nook team · April 2, 2026
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."
Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood commands in Scripture. It does not mean what happened was okay. It does not mean trust is automatically restored. It does not mean reconciliation is possible in every case. It means you are choosing to release what is poisoning you to keep holding.
Colossians 3:13 ties our forgiving to Christ's forgiving of us. We forgive not because the other person earned it, but because we have been forgiven so much that we cannot, in good conscience, hold our small accounts so tightly.
If forgiveness feels impossible today, do not try to feel it. Try to pray it. 'Lord, I cannot forgive them yet. Begin the work in me anyway.' That prayer alone is a doorway. He will meet you in it.
A Prayer
Lord, You have forgiven me more than I will ever forgive anyone. Soften my heart. Help me release what I have been carrying. Let forgiveness begin in me, even if the feelings come last. Amen.
